Modern automotive timing belts have come a long way since their first introduction. Belts these days contain extremely tough yet flexible materials that see anything from 60,000 to over 100,000 miles before they are changed. Vehicles with an "interference" engine must have their belts changed as per the service specification. Failure to do so will lead to Valves colliding with piston heads resulting in expensive repairs or in some cases, engine replacement.

Properly identifying your timing belt is relatively simple. Belts are identified by their length, width and profile. The safest way to find out the correct belt type is to contact your car manufacturer or dealer.
