The taper roller design has been with us for many years. Most commonly found in automotive applications (especial heavy commercial vehicles), the taper roller provides many benefits. Its construction allows radial and axial loads to be applied and absorbs impact and shock loads with ease if properly fitted. One of the commonest problems found with taper rollers is in the fitting (which is the case for many bearing types). Their are many varieties of taper including back-to-back, face-to-face, sealed and preloaded units.
